My Story

Hello friends! My name is Andy, and during August, I'm walking 150km to support lion protection and conservation. Did you know that over 88% of lions have disappeared in the last century? Their numbers have plummeted from around 200,000 to between 20,000 to 23,000 due to trophy hunting, poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and habitat loss. Can you imagine a world without these magnificent creatures? I don't know anyone who wouldn't be devastated if lions disappeared from the wild. 

But there is hope! I have chosen to fundraise for Born Free because I am passionate about wildlife conservation. Born Free has rescued nearly 60 lions from appalling captive conditions and distress. Like Bellone, one of the Lions of Lockdown, rescued from a miserable life in a European circus, now thriving at the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary at Shamwari, South Africa. Then there's Moja the lion, caught in a deadly snare but, thankfully, pared from an agonising fate and released back into the wild by their heroic Pride of Meru Team in Kenya.

Born Free protects species and habitats, advocates for compassionate conservation, lobbies against trophy hunting, and promotes wild animal welfare worldwide. With your help, we can fund vital projects like anti-poaching initiatives, habitat protection, and community conflict resolution to encourage peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife.
